SENIOR PEER COUNSELING PROGRAM

Family Service Agency’s Senior Peer Counseling Program offers individual peer counseling, support groups for men and women, and connections to other social networks in the community.

WHO CAN RECEIVE OUR SERVICES

Older adults age 55+ who are faced with challenges of aging such as the loss of a loved one, becoming a caregiver to a family member, illness, retirement, or experiencing feelings of isolation and depression. We receive referrals from doctors, case managers, social workers, family members, senior service agencies, and from older adults seeking support.

Our goal is to strengthen and enhance the quality of life of older adults in Sonoma County by providing services to promote successful aging. We are here to listen, to care and to offer help in times of need. All of our services for seniors are free.  We always welcome donations.

INDIVIDUAL PEER COUNSELING

Trained Senior Peer Counselors visit clients in the home or at our Agency for one hour a week for up to 12 sessions. Our peer counselors have received extensive training and receive ongoing supervision.  They are warm, caring individuals who offer non-judgmental, empathetic listening and who are willing to give their time and energy to help their peers navigate through some of life’s tougher transitions.

SUPPORT GROUPS

All our support groups are facilitated by trained senior peer counselors. The groups focus on issues of aging such as retirement, changing roles, relationships, isolation, communication, self-esteem, empowerment, health issues, coping, care giving, finding innovative ways to meet the challenges of aging, and giving and receiving emotional support.

WOMEN’S SUPPORT GROUPS: 12 week groups (in Santa Rosa, Windsor and Healdsburg) and an ongoing group in Santa Rosa  (all groups limited to 10-12 participants)

MEN’S SUPPORT GROUP: Ongoing group meets twice a month on Thursday mornings at Faith Lutheran Church, Santa Rosa
