Individual Psychotherapy for Children

FSA sees children for a wide variety of issues, including:

  • Behavioral disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, conduct disorders, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Life stressors such as moving, divorce, birth of a new sibling, puberty, death of a loved one, physical or learning disabilities, and physical and sexual abuse

Children are provided one-on-one treatment, including play therapy, art therapy, and sand tray therapy. These methods allow therapists to assess and understand children at their level of cognitive and behavioral development. Research supports the effectiveness of these therapies in helping children cope with difficult emotions and life stressors, learn new social skills, and find solutions to their problems.

FSA accepts Victim Assistance recipients and families funded by Child Protective Services and NBRC.

HIP HOPE for Youth

A program of hope to address the needs of children who have experienced trauma such as: violence in the home, a hostile divorce or custody battle, or physical/sexual abuse. The goal of treatment is to empower children to:

  • Understand that violence committed by adults is NEVER their fault
  • Find non-violent ways to solve problems
  • Learn to identify & appropriately express feelings
  • Experience support & empathy from peers

Groups and individual therapy sessions are provided for a nominal fee to children between the ages of 7 and 11. Facilitators are bilingual in English and Spanish. This program runs quarterly.

Call 707-545-4551 ext. 233 for more information.

Family Assistance Fund

A special fund has been established for children and families who are desperately in need of mental health services but cannot afford FSA's minimum fee. Up to one year of therapy can be provided for a greatly reduced fee. If your child or family qualifies for this fund, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified by an intake counselor when your name reaches the top of the list.

This fund was established in honor of Jay Stromgren, former FSA Board President and community activist, and is generously funded by local donors.
