Clinical Internships
One of Northern California's most respected training programs Family Service Agency's intern training program has been successfully operating for over 20 years. We offer clinical trainee and internship positions for graduate and post-graduate M.A. students of Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work, and psychology doctoral students at the practicum level of placement. We have a strong commitment to professional training, providing a friendly learning environment, challenging clients, warm and nurturing peer support, intensive supervision and professional trainings. Our interns are essential to the services we provide to the community and enable us to offer low fees to our clients.
Gain experience in a wide range of issues Whether you're an inexperienced trainee/intern or you've already accumulated many hours toward your licensure, this training program can meet your needs. You will gain experience working with individuals (children, adolescents and adults), couples, families and groups. Our client population is wide and varied. You can gain experience in sand tray work with children, work with domestic violence perpetrators in a group psycho-educational setting, see families and children referred to us by CPS, learn successful treatment strategies working with couples, and if you speak Spanish you can be part of our popular and busy bilingual program. These are just a few of the many areas of experience that can be gained at Family Service Agency.
Quality supervision and training On average, a trainee/intern receives 3 to 5 hours of supervision a week. Our ongoing clinical issues training program is designed around your needs of direct client contact information. You will receive a foundation in legal/ethical practical considerations that are client/situation based. Skills in the areas currently emphasized by the mental health profession are taught and practiced, along with more traditional counseling theories and methods. In general, most of our clinicians use a psychodynamic approach, and we are usually open to interns/trainees who use different approaches.
Joining our program The commitment is for 1 year, usually beginning in September or March. The hourly commitment is for 14 to 22 hours a week, depending on your intern/trainee status. These are paid internships. Contact Joe Petzel, Clinical Director, at (707) 545-4551 ex 215 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
